I can definitely recommend this movie to anyone who has practiced, planning on practicing, or even thinking about yoga. Arthur takes the viewer on his personal six-year journey in discovering yoga while incorporating the stories of other yogis and yoginis creating a true sense of how yoga is being used and viewed in the world today. From kirtan musician Dave Stringer to a new mother to wrestler Diamond Dallas Page, Y Yoga shows just why yoga is becoming more and more popular through their easily relatable, yet very personal stories. There is not much about the technical practice; Arthur mainly focuses on the spiritual aspect of yoga and how it can be a positive tool in anyone’s life. The movie was enhanced by stunning artwork by Robert Sturman and a great soundtrack featuring Donna De Lory, Girish, Dave Stringer, Spring and many more talented artists. Y Yoga really captures the benefits yoga brings to anyone’s life through accounts of others who’s lives have been changed by yoga. It really answers the question “why do yoga?” and makes the viewer want to start, continue, or do more. This is definitely THE movie to see!!
— Justin , Newton MAThank you Arthur, I so enjoyed watching Y-Yoga. As a 57 year old who's been doing Yoga in Los Angeles for 20 years it was simply delightful to watch a movie about our joined experience, students, teachers, friends, family. When I say "our" I refer to the connection we have all made, that has been such a joyful part of our yoga practice. I think that the "ah ha" experience or epiphany experience that we discussed the other night, that arises from inspired teaching in the group setting is love-ingly documented in your film. With each interview I smiled with my heart, and many times with tears to be blessed with the knowing and connection that has accompanied me on my personal yoga journey. Thanks to so many of the amazing teachers, musicians, writers, thinkers, artists, and lovers of life that make up this amazing community of yogis and yoginis, I can not help but spill-over with gratitude to be a part of it. I kept thinking about Woodstock, and being a part of the "Love Generation Revolution" back in the 60's, and how our favorite musicians and their music came together to create a blast of inspiration that lasted and kept us going for 50 years. Now we have yoga and the yoga community to take us to the next level....., a clean world....full of peace for all. The dream still lives. Namaste, Jackie Robbins Malibu, California January 2010 PS...Perhaps your movie should never end and it should just keep getting bigger :0)
— Jackie Robbins, Malibu, CAI watched "Y Yoga Movie" this am. My bladder (or the moon) woke me and I just had to watch it, beginning to end, through all the namastes. I'm typing to you under my covers with a gorgeous glowing full moon shining through the french doors. The beauty of being a creative communicator is skill and exercising the courage to reveal and express yourself to anyone listening. Thank you for inspiring me to honor that creative warrior in me and for making a piece I can show my friends and family in Wisconsin, marine cousins, fitness fanatics... Those are the boundary walls I've experienced, and haven't known how to reach or teach them. As the moon dips into the treeline beyond my balcony, I feel blessed and guided that I am on my path of living yoga and I saw this full moon from the warmth of my bed and your movie! I'm thankful there are male yoga instructors, business men, and filmmakers getting "the word" out in the west. Be yoga. So many yoga studios are full of women... Let's turn on a few more good men and activate the emerging yoga community as citizens of a better world. Ps. In 4 years of living here, I've never seen the moon set from my bed. Namaste
— Stephanie Larson, Los Angeles, CAHi Arthur, I'm usually not much on the email -- sorry you seem to be getting a barrage!! I finally watched your movie. An excellent accomplishment with a powerful message and very impressive list of resources -- a plethora of talent! Great job connecting with so many that have such unique insight. Lots of love and light! I personally also enjoyed seeing instructors I recall from yesteryear still in it, happy and reaching out to others to spread the gift around. I practiced yoga at Germukh's studio with first husband Brian when we were just babies in our 20's. On occasion, I went to her home to practice (I think her husband made really yummy cookies sold in health food stores, if memory serves). She recommended a doctor who delivered Dillon into this world--a small world at that. Thanks, I enjoyed watching your movie today! Kate
